Our Mission
Jesus gives his church many missions, sometimes specific, sometimes general but always relevant. We believe our mission is twofold. The first is found in what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28–30 (NLT)
“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
We believe our church is called to be a place where all of us can find rest for our souls. Rest from struggle, rest from fear, rest from doubt, rest from condemnation, rest from the rat race world that seeks to crush our very souls. Jesus says come unto me and I will exchange your heavy burdens with my much lighter ones. He says we can learn from him, learn how to live in this world and not get crushed, live in this world and thrive, live through him and live so much lighter and fuller at the same time. This is central to our mission; we are all in need of this rest. We find it in many different ways, we find it in observing and fellowshipping with our God on his Sabbath Day, on his Holy Days in the spring and the fall, in prayer and meditation with God the Father and Christ Jesus and in sweet fellowship with one another.
The second part of our Mission is intimately connected to the first. We cannot keep this good news to ourselves. We have to share it. We have to share the salvation that comes through Jesus Christ and the blessings that come from obeying his commandments and finding rest for our souls. In Matthew 28:18–20 (NLT) we read this:
18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Go and make disciples he said, drawn from all nations, from all peoples. And those disciples are not disciples of a church, a denomination or of a specific church leader. They are disciples of Jesus, that is it. It is that simple. We are to bring as many who are willing to Jesus Christ. To the only one who can teach, who can heal, who can give rest for our weary souls. Disciples of the only being who can be with us in every battle, in every joy, in every moment of life. To the only one that can give us eternal life with him and the father.
As Jesus told us in John 3:16–17 (NLT)” 16“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.”
